Military Sociology research

In the international as well as in the Hungarian sociology the empirical military sociology represents a special research orientation. According to the information demand of certain institutes related to the Hungarian National Army in our integrated long-term research program we are investigating public attitude changes towards the national army. Within the frameworks of this research orientation we adopted both theoretical and applied sociological approaches. By request of the National Defense University we joined the Hungarian data collection within the frameworks of the International Survey of Public Poll Concerning Armed Forces Professionalization research program and on an assignment of the Ministry of Defense within the Defense Review Program we investigated the opinion of the new entrant officers, and the officers who had seen Foreign Service. We also conducted empirical research projects related to current issues on the national army, analyzed public opinion about the planned war against Iraq, and the training of Iraqis on the Hungarian NATO base, and finally we conducted research about Hungarian soldiers in Afghanistan.
